Bartomeu: “I hope for a 2012 as successful as this one”

We must celebrate it and hope for a 2012 as successful as this one.” On the overwhelming victory against Hospitalet, Bartomeu said that the team “played very well. It was evident that they were eager. They came back from the World Cup and they played spectacularly.” He was also visibly pleased that the people “enjoyed the match,” especially on a day like today, with the celebration of the Diada del Socio Solidario (Day of Member Solidarity). Lastly, the vice president didn’t have a preference on Barça’s next rival in the Cup. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

Josep Guardiola: “The way they behave is admirable”

The Barça manager highlighted the general attitude displayed by the players after winning the Club World Cup last Sunday, “they came here and strived against Hospitalet”.

“We’ve earned prestige with today’s football demonstration.” Pep Guardiola, who was concerned about how his team would handle tonight’s match against Hospitalet after the Club World Cup in Japan, was visibly satisfied by the general attitude displayed by his players. He not only highlighted the talent of the squad but the “capacity to play the round of 32 in the King’s Cup after being named the best club in the world.” For this reason he said that “the way they behave is admirable.” Guardiola believes that this is the reason that “we are doing things right.”

Guardiola explained that he prepared this game “like any other game. We studied images [of Hospitalet] that we’d usually skip, the players can’t perceive that we don’t do our job and then demand that they do theirs.”

The Barça manager said that matches like tonight’s at the Camp Nou usually “have fewer people. I know that the Club invited social groups. I think it’s a beautiful idea. It’s great that they came and cheered us on. The stadium wasn’t full but we heard the 50,000 people, I’m very thankful.”

The manager had special words of praise for Isaac Cuenca. “He’s been impeccable all year. We hope that with humility, the behaviour of being seen and talking little, that he will be ready and as a player, be at the required level.” (via FCBarcelona.cat)

I hope to start next year at 100%.” He also admitted that it’s very difficult to win a starting spot in this Barça team: “There’s a lot of competition, there are players that are doing really well. It’s great for the group.”

He allows Thiago to take the second penalty

On Barça’s thrashing of L’Hospitalet, Pedro said: “We started off intensely, we knew it would be difficult because of how the away game went. The fact that we scored early made it easier, from that point on we were more comfortable.” Without preferences on Barça's next rival in the next round, he said that he let Thiago take the second penalty because he got the first one: “Thiago asked me if he could take it and I let him, like Xavi and Cesc let me take the first one.”

“I really enjoyed playing with the team, the game and the victory.”

“We’ve shown that we never let our guard down, but we always respect our opponent.”

Cristian Tello:

“I was really eager, it was my debut at the Camp Nou and I’m really happy because we won and because of my personal performance.”

“I can’t believe it, I’m very excited and content. However, I know my place in the reserve side.”

“We didn’t expect so many people to show up. It was a prize for us.”

Cesc Fàbregas:

“I have a knock on my knee. It hurts a bit, and I’ll be OK.”

“We hope that the good play and titles continue in 2012.”

“I didn’t score, but I had three or four assists and I’m happy with that.”

Andreu Fontàs:

“I’m really happy with how we closed out the year, I’ll continue to work just as hard next year.”

[Copa del Rey; 1/16 final; Leg2] FC Barcelona 9 - 0 CE L´Hospitalet

Pedro, Iniesta, Thiago (2), Xavi, Tello (2) and Cuenca (2), racked up nine goals – five before the break- as Barça charged into the last 16 of the Spanish Cup in the last game of 2011 at the Camp Nou tonight.

FC Barcelona secured their place in the next round of the Spanish Cup with a tremendous 9-0 rout of Hospitalet, with Pedro opening the scoring on 10 minutes and Iniesta, Thiago (2), Xavi, Tello (2) and Cuenca getting the rest. The victory, added to the 0-1 win at Hospitalet was only overshadowed by an injury to Iniesta, who will now be out for the next 15 days.

Guardiola's team go into the next round, alongside Valencia, Mallorca, Espanyol, Seville, Madrid, Malaga, Llevant, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Racing, Athletic Club, Albacete, Alcorcón, Mirandés and Cordoba.

Guardiola fielded 10 home grown players, only Pinto had not come up through the academy system, and the team showed how serious they were about the game from the off, going 3-0 up within the first 22 minutes: the first was a Pedro penalty, the next an Iniesta effort after Xavi had brilliantly put Cesc through and the third a lovely goal from Thiago after he won back a ball in midfield and shimmied through the visitors'' defence.

By half time it was five, but also by then Iniesta had had to call for a substitution after he'd knocked into the Hospitalet keeper and tests later revealed he'd be out for up to 15 days. He was replaced by Sergi Roberto, who came close to making it four almost immediately, but in the end it was Xavi who did just that, rounding off a lovely reverse pass from Cesc. And that was that for the Catalan midfielder who soon after his goal was replaced by Tello, who then went on to make it five, charging through from the midfield just a couple of minutes after coming on.

The 56.480 fans who had turned up at the Camp Nou were no doubt wondering just how many goals their team were going to end up putting past Hospitalet and soon after the break, Cuenca made it a half dozen, finishing off some great work from Tello out on the left. Curiously enough the Barça attack was made up of three conventional wingers now -Tello, Pedro and Cuenca.

However, the team weren't prepared to settle for six! Thiago was brought down by Viale and again handed penalty taking duties to Pedro , whilst Tello scored his second soon after to make it 8-0. Could Barça now beat their 8-0 win over Osasuna? Well yes, of course - Cuenca got his second latching on to yet another great ball form Cesc and the players wrapped up a great night and an even greater 2011 with a stunning nine goal haul – here's to a Happy New Year! Without Villa, the casting begins with the branch

Cuenca will start but Rafinha and Tello can play.

Isaac Cuenca is shaping up as a starter in a front that could complement Pedro Rodriguez and Cesc Fàbregas in a game against L'Hospitalet to serve as a testbed for the future, after the serious injury to David Villa . The end, already installed in the first team since Ibrahim Afellay was 'broke' in October, will return to the starting lineup after performing in the second half of the Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Sadd.

All of them exercised yesterday in the second session since the return of Japan along with four kids over subsidiary the defenders Martin Montoya , who was congratulated by Pep Guardiola after yesterday renewed until 2014, and Marc Muniesa and midfielders Jonathan dos Santos and Sergi Roberto. Barca will face L'Hospitalet, with Pinto and ten homegrown

Barca wants to win the final go round pulling the value of the future safer, the cantera.

Barca has committed to José Manuel Pinto and a host of homegrown players to try to close the year 2011 as best as possible, confirming their place in the knockout stages of the Copa del Rey against L'Hospitalet. The team arrives at the Camp Nou river to enjoy the game as a historical event, but also with the effrontery of those who managed a decent 0-1 in the first leg. Jordi Vinyals football players want to give the pleasure of playing in the Nou Camp and, if the giant falls asleep, give the bell.

It seems unlikely that there will be a radical lowering of tension in the Barca ranks. To begin with, because Josep Guardiola is always careful to keep their players with feet on the ground. Yesterday, without going any further, he reminded them that have never been able to now how long did win the first match after the Club World Cup.

Second, because the players who actually make the first team have always shown a professionalism to the test of any rival. Last of the subsidiary because the kids face the duel with the hope of demonstrating that one day may follow the path of Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta and Messi.

In any case, it is difficult to hazard a lineup that for sure will be a combination of first team players that have not been excused by Pep Guardiola and young talents.

Guardiola has called for a final training session this morning at 12.30 with 11 first team players and seven of the subsidiary, which will discard two. Missing Brazilians, Argentines, Seydou Keita and Eric Abidal, it's time for Fontàs, Montoya, Muniesa or Cuenca. All showed as they can rely on your ability and tonight will be able to help Barça is in the hype when they decide Friday morning pairings of eighths, quarters and semifinals of the Cup, the only title he could not conquer in 2011. Three draws after intercontinental championship

Barça have never won their first match after the former Intercontinental Cup or the current Club World Cup. They drew with Villarreal (09/10), Atlético Madrid (06/07) and Rayo Vallecano (92/93).

The new world champion has a new challenge to overcome, both against L'Hospitalet in the cup on Thursday and at Espanyol in the first league game of 2012. They have never lost their first game after the Intercontinental or Club World Cups, but have never won either.

FCB v Villarreal (1-1) 2/1/10

In 2009, Barça became the first club to win six major trophies in a calendar year. And they were able to celebrate the feat in front of their own fans at home to Villarreal. The game got off to a great start with Pedro's 7th minute goal, but Fuster equalised after 50 minutes. Those were the only points FCB dropped at the Camp Nou all season.

FCB v Atlético Madrid (1-1) 21/12/06

Rijkaard's side returned to the Camp Nou after the disappointment of defeat to Inter of Porto Alegre, to face Atlético Madrid, a real nemesis for the team in those times. With Eto'o and Messi both injured, Ronaldinho opened the scoring with a pearl of a free kick, but Agüero levelled in the second half. Barça were still three points adrift of Sevilla in the table, with a game in hand.

Rayo Vallecano v FCB (3-3). 20/12/93

Shortly after losing to São Paulo, it was off to the Nuevo Vallecas (where several top teams had already lost), where Barça got a heroic point despite both Stoichkov (min 6) and Koeman (min 69) being sent off and the home side going 3-1 up. Salinas sneaked a late point for Johan Cruyff's side, who were second in the table behind Deportivo, who Barça would eventually pip to the title on the very last day. (via FCBarcelona.cat)
