Keita with his younger countrymen

Prior to training on Thursday, Seydou Keita has been visited in the Ciudad Deportiva, a group of Malian children adopted by Catalan families.

FC Barcelona Foundation has managed, this Thursday morning, with Keita's meeting with a group of twelve Malian children who were adopted by Catalan families. Children who are aged between one and five years, have visited the Ciudad Deportiva with his parents and have been able to do a family photo with the midfielder. The Bamako has shared time with them, has offered various items of merchandise are FC Barcelona and signed autographs.

All of them are part of the entity Fretanissô, an association of adoptive families in Africa, founded in 2008, which aims to strengthen ties with the country of origin of their children. In this sense, Fretanissô organizes meetings and children's activities that serve to stimulate coexistence among the twenty families who currently make up this association. (via FCBarcelona.cat)

[Selection: African Nations Cup] Keita appeals for peace in Mali

The midfielder broke down in tears during the Africa Cup on Nations post-match press conference, after 20 people died in clashes in the player’s home country. On his Malian teammates, Seydou Keita said, “we’re celebrating our win but at the same time we are very sad”.

Seydou Keita called for an end to the violence in Mali after 20 people died in clashes in the Timbuktu region of the country. “The president of the Republic is doing everything he can to stop it ... I plead with the people to stop. It’s not normal, we don’t do this kind of thing. We need peace, we are all Malian,” the player told Reuters. During the post-match press conference, after Mali beat Gabon in a penalty shootout, the Barça midfielder broke into tears as he talked about his home country: “we are celebrating our victory but at the same time we are very sad. [Seloction] Keita, pivotal for Mali

Seydou Keita, who is playing in the Africa Cup of Nations with his national team, was key in Mali’s victory over Botswana (2-1). The FC Barcelona midfielder scored the second and decisive goal. Keita, best footballer of Mali 2011


The FC Barcelona midfielder Seydou Keita on Sunday has been chosen as the best athlete in Bamako, Mali 2011, at a gala event was called "Night of sporting merit."

Keita was rewarded for his season at Barça, with whom he won the League, Champions League, the Club World Cup and the Supercopa of Spain and Europe. Keita is considered also a key player in the Mali team, qualified for the African Nations Cup 2012.

The Blaugrana player also chose this week to win the prize for best African player of the year. However, this award was a finalist for the Ivorian Yaya Toure , Manchester City. (via MD)
