Busquets: “We try to add variants to our play so we can attack better and score more goals”

Sergio Busquets says that the team works intensely to improve and hopes Guardiola stays “for the good of the team and the Club”. On Sunday’s match: “It’s a derby and that means extra motivation. Espanyol have a young team and they are having a fantastic season”. On his career: “I hope that my best moments are still yet to come”.

“It’s always difficult to come back from holiday, but we came back and played a good game against a complicated opponent. We managed to get a good result for the away leg,” said Sergio Busquets on last night’s game against Osasuna. However, the midfielder does not believe the tie is over: “I’m sure that we’ll have complicated moments during the match in Pamplona. We have the experience from last year against Betis in Seville. Osasuna is a great team and they are having a fantastic season, at home they pressure you a lot.” Asked about the possible rivals Barça might face in the next round, Busquets said that “until all the ties are over, talking about possible rivals would be showing a lack of respect.”

After this morning’s open-door training session at the Miniestadi, Busquets held a press conference at the Richard Maxenchs press room in the Camp Nou. When asked if he believes if Guardiola’s Barça is innovating football world wide, the midfielder said: “The coaches and the players try to add variants to the team's play so we can attack better and score goals, which is the most important thing. I don’t know the extent of our innovation. It’s for those that follow football history to decide.”

On the manager’s contract renewal, Busquets added his voice to the team choir in hoping that Guardiola will stay: “I hope he stays here for a long time. Not only for the good of this team, but for the good of the Club. It would be great if he were a Ferguson type of manager.”

The midfielder hopes to continue progressing as a player: “I try to do the best possible job in helping the team, but I also hope that my best moments are still yet to come. I’m 23, I believe I’m still young.”

Motivated for the derby on Sunday

After the game against Osasuna, the team is focusing on Sunday’s derby at Cornella. “It’s a derby and that means we have extra motivation. We’ll all do what’s best for the team. I believe it’s one of the most difficult fields. They’re a great team that pressures high up the pitch. Even though they’ve sold some players and have a young team, they’re having a great season.”

Finally, referring to Messi’s physical condition, Busquets was clear: “The secret is that he’s the best player in the world. He only trained once or twice, but he’s doing well physically. He plays almost all the games all year long. He’s strong. He wasn’t feeling too well in the morning but by the afternoon he was better, and he was able to play.”(via FCBarcelona.cat)
